Functional exercise isn't new. How we implement, coach, motivate, recover, plan, and embrace these ideals in our daily life is the special equation.

Our athletes see results because regardless of age and experience, our coaches know how to instruct and draw out their maximum potential. Workouts are varied, intense, and smartly designed to promote change every day. We don't just push you, we teach you how to get more out of yourself and desire more from yourself.

Real Fitness

Chances are if you are checking us out you have already identified some of the pitfalls of other training programs and communities that supposedly provide their clients with improved fitness. We aren’t a normal gym because normal gyms don’t promote real fitness. We also don’t look at the word fitness like many others do. Fitness isn’t just about how you look or how many miles you can run. Fitness encompasses much more. It carries over to how you work, play, eat, and interact. We view our training program as just one method of improving and reinforcing important character traits. Some of these traits include confidence, discipline, courage, honesty, dedication, and perseverance. Chances are our workout will be the toughest thing you do all day. People leave our gym feeling as though they have already conquered the world, something we have seen first hand directly improve a person’s outlook on their day-to-day routine. We see people reduce their stress, anxiety, and just all around feel better. The best part is that real fitness is accessible to everyone regardless of age or athletic background and/or ability. There is no shortcut besides hard work, and that is all we will ever ask out of our members.

REAL NUTRITION

Imagine this, everything you put in your body is either going to negatively, or positively impact your health, mood, sleep, and ability to achieve your desired fitness goals. Why spend time and money chasing real fitness, if you continue to eat foods that don’t support your health and longevity? Unlike most gyms, our coaches are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to diet and nutrition. Nutrition is so important to us that it is actually the first lecture provided when going through your introductory classes. Our nutrition plan is easy to follow and is founded on the principle of real food, real results.

REAL ATHLETICS

We have all seen the amazing feats of gymnasts, power and Olympic lifters, sprinters, and more. You may have also noticed their bodies are lean and muscularly advanced in development. And yet, none of these athletes attained their physique from the much enjoyed bicep curl, leg extension, or peck-deck. They did so by using their body as it was meant to be used, as a whole. Weight machines were created to isolate the movement of one muscle in your body. Why train the body in isolation when there is never a moment in which this occurs? Imagine kicking a soccer ball with the movement of a leg extension machine, or throwing a baseball with the movement of a tricep extension. Even with the swollest horse-shoe of a tricep, I doubt you can throw it far without using your body. Seems silly right? Our body is complex and allows us to accomplish amazing things when working as a whole unit which is why we train it as such. We incorporate exercises that require multiple muscle groups to work together, stressing not just the muscular but also the nervous system. So next time you go to bend over and pick up something off the ground, ask yourself which machine at the gym you are mimicking.

Founder & Comic Book Nerd

My close friends will tell you I have a history of not being able to stick with anything. I've gotten into martial arts, skateboarding, marathon running, and plenty more. I always got bored and moved on to something else; something more exciting at the time. Until I found CrossFit. You can never get bored with constantly varied functional movements. In doing CrossFit, I found that I had a passion for coaching and helping others reach their goals.

Gym Manager & Resident Badass

I grew up playing every sport possible and always enjoyed being active and pushing myself to the next level. As I got older, my activity level decreased, and I became bored with treadmills and spin classes. In 2009, while on deployment with the US Navy in Afghanistan, I was introduced to CrossFit through the WOD “Murph” in desert settings. I figured if I could do that, I could attempt anything Crossfit had to throw at me. Crossfit provides an outlet for me to handle daily stress and allows me to continue to be in the best shape, without it ever becoming boring.

I truly enjoy training, but the extra benefit of being a coach in this community is that I get to help others with their goals. To help a member grow into the athlete they want to be is one of the greatest rewards to me.

Growing up I had two loves, sports and just acting like a kid (I still love acting like a kid now too). I have dipped my feet in to many different sports and forms of fitness throughout my life. I have played baseball, football, wrestling, crew, volleyball, lacrosse, trained in parkour/urban gymnastics, p90X, and bodybuilding. Because of my love for fitness I pursued a bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where I learned topics like anatomy and physiology, nutrition, advanced strength/conditioning and programming. While in college I discovered CrossFit , I started a functional fitness club, trained friends out of my dorm as well as coached at CrossFit Lynchburg. Jeff Bowden
Coach & Bearded Badass

My life has always been full of competition, whether it be trying to best one of my three brothers, beat my friends in a bear crawl race, or participating in a variety of different sports. At one point in high school, I was involved in powerlifting, track, baseball, and the golf team. We only had 25 or so athletes in the school. So we did it all. I went on to The Ohio State and stopped competing allowing the “college life” to take over. I ended up with a B.S. in Health Sciences and a severe case of “I don’t move enough”. After college, I moved to New Orleans and worked as a personal trainer at a local fitness club. In 2010, I stumbled into a CrossFit gym in Nola and knew this was it – I was home. The CrossFit community is amazing and makes me want to be a better person, brother, friend and ultimately help others in any way I can. I love this community and am thrilled every day to be a part of it!

Mackenzie Lear
Coach & Rowing Instructor

I picked up my first barbell when I was 12 years old and haven’t set it down, (cheesy metaphor, I know) BUT it’s true. Having a solid strength and conditioning background gave me the foundation to excel in all my athletic endeavors, especially rowing. After “retiring” from my rowing days, I found CrossFit. CrossFit has become a great outlet for me to keep up with my training and competitive spirit. I love having the opportunity to grow, coach, and share this sport with this community!

Michael Lin
Coach & Genetically Predisposed to Lift

My family never participated in anything physical, and always believed in being intellectually athletic. However, since being born here in the great country of Texas, my mom and dad took full advantage of the opportunities and enrolled me in a myriad of sports to go along with my studies. I grew up mainly swimming and playing tennis, but that activity level receded quickly once I moved on to College Station. Then, in February 2012, I discovered Crossfit, experienced a new level of “ouch”, and began a masochistic addiction with the sport.

Since coming to Deep, I've given myself wholly to understanding the science of everything olympic weightlifting. I have found a passion that has made me realize my mental and physical potential, and I truly want to help others achieve the same.

Collin Batson
Coach & Slow Riser

Growing up, I played every sport that my parents would allow me to, baseball, soccer, basketball, roller hockey and football. Anything I could do to go out and compete was a passion of mine. As I got older, I narrowed it down to Football which I continued through High School. I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to play at the Collegiate level but decided that it was time to hang it up. During my college tenure I really let myself go and did not focus on my health or staying as active as I was accustomed to. Due to this, I put on a considerable amount of weight which I eventually determined was not how I wanted to live my life and something had to change.

I discovered Crossfit in 2009 and have not looked back since. Not only has Crossfit helped me to create healthier lifesyle but it also gave me back that competitiveness I was missing. I love having the opportunity to compete every day at Crossfit Deep and truly enjoy getting the opportunity to Coach and help others achieve their goals!
