Clean 135# Ring Dips
Refer back to November 1, 2009
Natalie Wolfolk, Beijing Olympian, clean and jerking 260 pounds. The purpose for posting this is twofold. First, Natalie has an amazingly efficient clean and anyone can learn a great deal by watching her form. We will be completing 45 cleans today and efficiency and proper technique is what will save you. Remember, no early arm bending! The second reason I posted this is because there is a common misconception that women who lift weights will look like this.
I can't tell you how many times I hear "I want long lean muscles, I don't want to get big so I don't want to lift weights." The idea that weightlifting will turn a woman into the hulk is a fallacy perpetuated by moronic, uneducated fitness mag writers. Bodybuilding and weightlifting are two entirely different things. At our gym, we do not do bodybuilding. We do not focus on muscle hypertrophy nor do we pump testosterone into our athletes. Natalie Wolfolk lifts very heavy weights, and she does it often. She is 140 pounds, and she can clean and jerk more than me. As we venture into the month of December, you will see a considerable focus placed upon getting you stronger. We accomplish this task by placing you under load. You will get stronger, you will get leaner, you will become more defined, but you will not look like this nor will you look like this. But unlike the last woman, later in life you will actually be able to pick up your grandkids or a dropped pen without falling over.
